Meet Sam,
founder of
THE MOVEMENT
If you knew anything about my background, you would think it’s quite unusual for me to end up in podiatry.
You see, my dad was a civil engineer. He was in the profession for 40 years and worked on some incredible projects during his career. When my brother and I were growing up, my dad would always share with us the latest buildings he was constructing, and would even take us on site to see the live action from time to time.
My brother and I had the chance to experience first hand the marvels of engineering. From foundations being laid to towering buildings being completed.
But there was one lesson that remains the most vivid to this day. My dad would always say, when it comes to any upright structure, whether it be a small house or tall building, it is crucial to have a stable foundation.
Inspired by my dad’s passion and achievements, my brother went onto become a civil engineer. Myself on the other hand, chose a different path.
As much as I loved engineering, I wanted to be in a career where I could work with people and make a difference in their lives.
I was torn, and felt like my future was pulled in 2 completely different directions. In the end, my passion for helping people trumped my passion for engineering, and I chose to pursue my studies in Podiatry.
But at the start of my career, I felt that I was not completely fulfilled. I felt like there was something missing in what I was doing. I loved helping people and making a difference, but I missed engineering.
Thinking deeply, that’s when I realised that I could still do engineering in Podiatry! After all, our feet are the foundation that support our whole body.
"When it comes to any upright structure, it is crucial to have a stable foundation."
Fast forward a few years, I feel like I am exactly where I need to be, doing exactly what I need to do – combining my passion to change people’s lives and my wealth of knowledge in biomechanics. Through addressing the biomechanics of the feet and legs, I now help people build a stable foundation to stand tall and move well.
I’m always inspired and encouraged by the stories my clients share with me. I’ve had clients tell me that they have been able to perform their dance recital. run the City to Surf, and go on their dream hiking holiday! These stories drive me and it makes me so happy that what I am doing can help make a difference in people’s lives. It really is the best feeling and there’s no looking back!
